Yup. All it takes is one mad dash in and out of the ocean, wrapping your goose bumps in a big Life is good towel (your gift if you raise $100 or more), showering and dressing in the heated locker rooms, and then heading down the street to our Life is good Tavern for a free brunch. You can do this!
Overwhelming stress caused by chronic exposure to poverty, violence and illness robs children of their playfulness, cripples their development and is considered by experts to be the single greatest health crisis facing children in America. We believe that to better care for our society’s most vulnerable children, we must better care for and support their adult caregivers. For many of these children, it is their teachers, counselors, nurses or other childcare professionals who insulate them from the painful realities of their living conditions. Their dedication to creating loving, transformative relationships with the children in their care can make a life-saving difference for kids struggling to overcome the potentially devastating impact of poverty, violence and severe illness. As Josh Shipp reminds us, “every kid is one caring adult away from being a success story.”
Our community of over 5,000 Playmakers work directly with over 100,000 children each day. But the need is far greater. And we need your help. Can we count on you to help a generation of children grow up feeling safe, loved and joyful? SO WHO IS JOEY?
By eight years old, Joey had lost his grandfather to cancer and seen his father survive cancer. At the age of nine, Joey wanted to create a charity to help those facing life-threatening challenges. On January 1, 2006, Joey took his 1st plunge with the L Street Brownies in South Boston, MA. He raised nearly $6,000 that year; in the years that followed, more and more big-hearted folks have joined Joey for the annual plunge, helping him raise over $250,000 for kids in need. Joey’s family have always been big fans of Life is good, so beginning this year, they’ve made the Playmakers the beneficiary of the plunge. Be part of an amazing tradition begun by one amazing kid!
